For People With Projects
You have a project: a memoir, a poem, a grant proposal, a letter to your mom. You wish you had more time to write. You wish you could sit still and get some words on the page when you do have time. You feel dizzied by the whims of the Muses, you try to outguess them, to find the right time of day, the right pen, the right beverage. You want to talk to other writers, to share strategies and sentences.
You are invited to gather with other writers this summer, to write and learn strategies for sustaining your passion for writing when you return to your busy life. We will gather in the spirit of mutual commitment to a goal, to get words on the page, and we will support each other by, each one of us, sticking to it. The schedule provides for:
- many hours of individual writing time,
- practices for sparking creativity and getting words moving,
- time to share results and discuss process,
- shared organic meals, and walks through farm and forest.
When and Where: There’s not one currently scheduled. But if you’d be interested, pipe up. We’re gathering steam for the next retreat. On Vashon Island, WA.
Contact: tthomaselliott@gmail.com
Cost: $200 per weekend, includes program, meals and slumber-party accommodation. (Accommodation is camping or semi-private floor space with hot showers. There are a limited number of rooms available w/ bed, $25/night.) Limited to 12 participants.
About the Facilitator: T. Thomas Elliott, PhD. has managed to sit still long enough to write a dissertation on the philosophy of language, a thesis on the creative process, half a novel (!), countless papers, a few good poems, and a bunch of heretofore unclassifiable items. Dr. Elliott has 19 years teaching experience (as a philosophy professor, a math teacher, a writing guide, and a retreat facilitator). Her current scholarly work is on ways to put ancient contemplative practices to use in the service of learning and creativity in modern life.

gads! i am going to have to save some money. cause i think you are an awesome writer and would love to learn how to sit still.
Your little sister Julie would love to attend a retreat on Vashon Island. Perhaps this summer, if you have one. I love you.
